Forms of Insulation You Can Select For Your Home

To ensure that your home maintains comfortable temperatures no matter the seasons, you need to have functioning insulation. Insulation refers to materials used to protect a structure against heat transfer. By working to reduce heat transfer between your home and the outdoors, the temperature in your home stays stable with infrequent variations between extreme cold and heat. This stability, in turn, works toward decreasing the amount of money as well as energy spent in maintaining optimum temperatures. Below are some of the forms of insulation that you could select for your home.

Insulation in the form of panels

Insulation in the form of panels is characterised by stiff sheets of insulation material. These types of insulation have a high R rating, which means they are more efficient at preventing thermal transfer in your home. Insulation panels are better suited at being installed in areas such as beneath concrete slab flooring and within walls. In the event that insulation panels cannot sufficiently protect cavities, the contractors will use blow-in insulation to ensure full coverage. Insulation panels can be made from an array of materials including cellulose fibre, fibreglass or even wool.

Insulation in the form of spray foam

This type of insulation will come in two main types. The first is the closed-cell variety and the second is the open-cell variety. Of the two, the closed cell variety tends to have a higher R rating. This type of insulation is convenient for homeowners who would like to undertake DIY insulation installation in small areas such as filling in minor gaps in window and doorways. However, if you require an expansive amount of space insulated, you would be better off opting for professional insulation installation to ensure that the entire area is covered sufficiently. It should be noted that spray foam insulation may be pricier than other forms of insulation. However, the installation of this insulation is much more convenient as it can easily be injected through holes in the wall rather than having to engage in drastic renovations. This can save you money in the long run.

Insulation in the form of reflective rolls

As the name suggests, this type of insulation will be in the form of a roll but will have a reflective side. This reflective side can be created using aluminium, whereas the other side of the insulation will either have a plastic or a paper backing. The pricing of reflective rolls of insulation will largely depend on the R factor of the different types available.
